It’s been awhile since I’ve properly updated. I feel like nothing much has been going on but then I realize, oh, shit! A LOT is going on!
- Assateague camping was a blast!
It was a pretty chill year and very relaxing. On our first night we were almost eaten alive by mosquitoes and other insects from hell but Saturday wasn’t nearly as bad. This could also be attributed to the fact we upped our concentration of DEET from the 25% OFF bought in DC to the 40% we got at the store across the bridge from the island. I managed to get a little sun and overall not too much sunburn! The only instance of sunburn happened Monday but I think it’s because my back was still wet from swimming so the sunblock didn’t get a chance to really sink in. Overall, I fucking love A-teague, even with minor annoyances (it’s hot as balls if you’re not in the shade during the day, mosquitoes and waiting an hour to light a fire because you only have damp wood and not charcoal).
- On a sad note, it looks like crab harvests really ARE down
Even though I’ve been hearing for awhile about the dwindling population of the blue crabs, it wasn’t until I was trying to catch some to eat on Sunday that I realized just how bad it must be getting. We tried three different spots and only managed to catch a few at one of them and even those little guys were too small to eat (and one was a female, anyway). I think I’d feel guilty if I’d caught a bushel which is about 6 dozen crabs, I believe?
- With the disappointing crabbing adventure, I think we’re going on a fishing/camping trip on Labor Day
I’m turning into a hick.
- But I’m an exercise in contradictions!
I got a blackberry for work… I’ve been fighting it because I don’t want to be permanently accessible but… omg, does it make me want a smart phone or what!? One added benefit is that I can check my gmail using the browser on my bberry but for some reason my freelovefreeway account doesn’t want to load. It tells me the password information doesn’t match. Oh, well.
- Going to Wolf Trap tonight
Ian’s mom, dad and stepmom are in town for the Jethro Tull concert at Wolf Trap tonight. I’m looking forward to my sandwich from Best Buns bakery and my Georgetown cupcake that I made Ian get since he’s off fork all week. YUM!
- Work crap
Things are looking to get INSANE here shortly to the point I might have to work some weekend shifts, too. Bleh. I’d still like to go tubing the end of the month but I’m playing things by ear. We’ve got some huge contract we’re on the verge of winning which means we’ll have to hire a million people through September. *sigh*
